Blow my mind...this paper! I woke up in the middle of the night the first time that I printed on Moab Slickrock Metallic Silver because I was so excited by what it created that I had to turn on the lights and return to those prints. I just had to see them. Like when I was a kid...This material (I know it’s paper, but it feels a bit like a thick sheet of 4x5 film) is a bit unreal. You will actually want to make images that will complement the qualities of this paper just so that you can make a print! The surface is like the surface of a high altitude ice skating rink. Images with deep colors, wide areas of color or black will make you sit in awe! Seriously. The creators of this paper must have been pretty stoked when they came up with this. So here’s the caveat...It has a silverish/grey base. So you’ll have to say goodbye to any sort of love affair with white paper borders (but there are all sorts of framing options where we don’t need that!) And here’s the other consideration. It will not work for every image. Images with a lot of white areas...I would be skeptical, or at least I would proceed with caution. Light, pastel images...hmmm maybe if you didn’t have a big light sky. Family portraits? Maybe, but this paper definitely has a coolish cast and I wouldn’t recommend it in a natural setting.. This is definitely a specialty paper. It almost has a 3D look to it. It is a micro-porous silver metallic inkjet paper that is absolutely perfect for anything that involves metal or reflections (i.e. those beautiful smooth water photographs that look like glass) in the subject matter. I even think that you could choose a subject that is completely the opposite of anything metallic. I recently printed an image of old books and it looked wonderful. I’ll keep experimenting and let you know what else I discover and I invite you all to experiment as well.
Largest size available for this paper: 20" on the short edge
* Prints will shift in color if you display them in rooms that have windows. To prevent this from occurring, you need to use UV protected glass or UV protected plexi glass when framing your prints. Most ready-made frames from discount stores do not come with UV glass. It is not very expensive to go to your local glass or frame shop and purchase the UV glass separately.
